About
Years of making things with people much smarter than us
Antarctica, on assignment for Discovery
Standing Sideways Studio is a fractional video team for growing companies and organizations.
We plan, shoot, and edit the interviews, events, and stories already happening inside your business, and turn them into a video library that keeps working long after the shoot wraps.
Founder Barry Pousman built that approach over a career leading digital programming at Discovery, producing storytelling initiatives with the United Nations, and creating content programs for universities and technology companies. His work has earned a Sheffield Doc Fest award, multiple Anthem Awards, and a Webby Award, and has been shown at Sundance, Tribeca, Venice, and SXSW.
That same instinct for finding the story and building it into something people actually watch is what now goes into your customer interviews, your team culture videos, and the footage library your organization can keep drawing from.

Why Standing Sideways?
The name comes from a simple belief: the most interesting way into a problem is rarely straight on.
Sometimes the job is to find the story nobody has noticed yet. Sometimes it is choosing a completely different format. Sometimes the idea is already good and the real problem is getting anyone to pay attention to it.
Standing Sideways is about finding that angle, then moving the work forward.
Barry Pousman
Founder + Executive Producer
Barry leads every Standing Sideways project personally, from the first conversation about what’s worth making through the shoot and the final cut. There’s no hand-off to a junior team and no account manager relaying your notes secondhand. The person you talk to on day one is the same person making the creative calls on day sixty.
It’s also why clients keep coming back: fast turnarounds, clear communication, and a genuine interest in making something you’re excited to hit send on, not just another deliverable to check off a list.
